Summary
If aGravity Fallsrevival is to happen in the near future, there’s only one way it can work without messing with the show’s perfect ending. Back in 2012, Disney brought the animated mystery comedy TV showGravity Falls, created by Alex Hirsch. Despite receiving critical acclaim, winning different awards, and building a solid and passionate fanbase,Gravity Fallsonly ran for two seasons(of 20 episodes each), officially coming to an end in 2016 – however,Gravity Fallswasn’t canceled, with Hirsch explaining it was his choice to end it with season 2 as the show was finished.
Gravity Fallsfollowed 12-year-old twins Dipper (voiced by Jason Ritter) and Mabel (Kristen Schaal), who arrived at the fictional town of Gravity Falls, Roadkill County, Oregon, to spend the summer with their great uncle Stan (Hirsch), who they simply call “Grunkle Stan”. Stan ran a tourist trap called the “mystery Shack”, which hid some wild secrets and a mysterious journal that led Dipper and Mabel to make some shocking discoveries about the town, its many mysteries, and their own family.Gravity Fallsonly got a graphic novel after the show ended, but if a revival happens in the near future, there’s only one way it can work.

The Gravity Falls Hoax That Tricked Fans Into Destroying A 100% Correct Theory
When fans guessed Gravity Falls' twist too early in the show’s run, the team went outside the box to keep the secret under wraps.
A Gravity Falls Spinoff Focused On Stan & Ford Is The Best Revival For The Show
There’s A Lot More To Learn About Stan & Ford
At the end ofGravity Falls, Stan and Ford left to investigate an anomaly in the Arctic Ocean, and were last seen on a boat battling a sea monster.
The future ofGravity Fallshas been uncertain for years. In 2017, Hirsch revealed he had talked about aGravity Fallsfilm with Disney, but the studio passed on it because they didn’t feel the show was “big enough” to warrant a film. As mentioned above, the only media released afterGravity Falls’ end was a graphic novel titledGravity Falls: Lost Legends, which is set within the show’s continuity, but in an interview withInverse, in 2021, Hirsch expressed interest in continuing the show in a video game, but that hasn’t happened yet.

The latest “update” on the future ofGravity Fallscame from Disney executive Meredith Roberts, who revealedthe studio has talked to Hirsch about a potential revival, but didn’t share anything else, simply adding “never say never” (viaThe Direct). If aGravity Fallsrevival does happen, the only way it could work without undoing the show’s perfect ending is with a spinoff focused on Stan and Ford (J.K. Simmons).Gravity Fallsrevealed that Stan has a twin brother named Ford, who disappeared into an alternate dimension for years, reuniting with his brother during the events of the show.
AGravity Fallsspinoff can follow Stan and Ford’s different adventures across the world while also exploring their dynamic and how they’re getting along after being apart for so long.

At the end ofGravity Falls, Stan and Ford left to investigate an anomaly in the Arctic Ocean, and were last seen on a boat battling a sea monster – meanwhile, Soos took over the Mystery Shack, and Dipper and Mabel went back to California. AGravity Fallsspinoff can follow Stan and Ford’s different adventures across the world while also exploring their dynamic and how they’re getting along after being apart for so long, thus expanding this universe.
A Gravity Falls Spinoff Could Also Focus On Dipper & Mabel
Dipper & Mabel Surely Have More Adventures To Share
AGravity Fallsspinoff focused on Dipper and Mabel can see them investigating new supernatural situations in their city, while also showing what their life is like at home.
If not focused on Stan and Ford, aGravity Fallsspinoff could follow the new adventures of Dipper and Mabel. After a wild summer in which they literally saved the world,it’s hard to imagine Dipper and Mabel going back to a “normal” lifein California. AGravity Fallsspinoff focused on Dipper and Mabel can see them investigating new supernatural situations in their city, while also showing what their life is like at home. The problem with both spinoffs, however, is that they would be missing the spark and charm of the other duo.

At the time of writing, it’s unknown if aGravity Fallsrevival will happen or if this unique world will expand in other media, whether a film, more graphic novels, or the video game Hirsch once talked about. What’s true is thatGravity Fallshad a perfect ending, and if the show is to return in some way, Hirsch and company should be careful not to mess with the ending and everything the show established.
