Glen Powell truly put his bid in to play Patrick Bateman during his recent action success,Hit Man.In the movie,Powell plays Gary, a mild-mannered professorwho, due to his expertise in psychology, is pulled into becoming an undercover cop. Part of his job is to embody different hit man personas to get people to admit to murder-for-hire plots. Among the many characters that Powell puts on in this role, one is a clear parody of Christian Bale’s iconic portrayal of Patrick Bateman. It is also Powell’s unintentional audition foranAmerican Psychoremake.
If Powell can so acutely portray Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman, perhaps he could formulate his own version of the same character.
In the scene, Powell dons a suit and red tie, slicks back his hair, and does an eerily strong impression of Bale’s Patrick Bateman. It is not just the costuming or dialogue that makes Powell reminiscent of Bateman.His facial expressions and voice are the perfect embodiment of what Bale didin 2000. In many ways, Powell’s imitation is funny and entertaining, but it also raises a few questions. If Powell can so acutely portray Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman, perhaps he could formulate his own version of the same character.

Overall, Glen Powell should be a top contender to play Patrick Bateman. Though his performance inHit Manis a mere parody of Christian Bale’s performance, it’s still quite good. It showsPowell can pick up on Bateman’s quirks, and perhaps add some of his own. Acting aside, Powell would also be a great choice because of his rising fame and resume. The actor can obviously do action, but he has yet to foray into villains. Now that Glen Powell is taking on leading roles, it could be time for him to finally play the bad guy inAmerican Psycho.
