The post, as seen above, features a special set photo from the final season ofCobra Kai, which was taken by Miguel actor Xolo Maridueña and shows Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso donning the iconic Miyagi headband. Macchio goes on in the caption to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the originalKarate Kidmovie, while also confirming he has wrapped filming on both the next movie andCobra Kaiseason 6.

2025 Is Set To Be The Karate Kid Franchise’s Biggest Year Ever

Macchio’s confirmation thatthe newKarate Kidmoviehas wrapped filming comes two months after Sony pushed back the release date from December 2024 to its current date of July 13, 2025. While never explicitly stated by the studio, most reports of the release delay indicated that it stemmed from a desire to leave room forCobra Kaiseason 6, which will close out the Netflix sequel show and is being split into three parts, beginning with Part 1’s release in July 2024.

Not only does the filming wrap ensure thatKarate Kidwill make its 2025 release date, but also sets up the year to be one of the franchise’s biggest ever. The last time both a TV show and movie were released for the franchise in the same year was 1989, which saw the premiere of the animatedThe Karate Kidshow, which has been largely decanoninzed save foraCobra Kaiseason 3 Easter egg, andPart III, initially Macchio’s final appearance until his return to the Netflix show.
