Summary

A new trailer forIndiana Jones and the Great Circlehas been shown as part of the Xbox Games Showcase. Although the Xbox Series S/X and PC exclusive title was announced back in January 2021, its title and gameplay were revealed as part of Xbox’s Developer Direct 2024 showcase earlier this year, but the new footage provided more insight into its story and the artifacts Indy will be looking for throughout the game.

The newXboxGames Showcasefootage showed Indy and his ally Gina exploring a frozen ship in the Himalayas- a departure from the previous teases of Italy that further ties into the globetrotting nature of the series - in search of one of the mystical artifacts connected to the titular Great Circle. They came face to face withEmmerich Voss' troops, resulting in a daring showdown. Unfortunately, a release date wasn’t confirmed, with the same 2024 release window present as in the Developer Direct trailer.

When Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Takes Place On The Timeline

The first look at Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was shown during Xbox’s Developer Direct 2024 showcase, confirming when the game takes place.

A Large Portion Of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle’s Footage Wasn’t Gameplay

Focusing Largely On A Cutscene Instead

The January 2024 Developer Direct footage revealed thatIndiana Jones and the Great Circlewould feature first-person gameplay, something that came as a surprise to those expecting a title akin toUnchartedorTomb Raider. While the latest trailer did show some brief moments of this first-person action, it mainly opted to advertise the game more as a cinematicIndiana Jonesadventure, focusing largely on the scripted cutscene moments.

Whilethis was a good way to show off the game’s impressively detailed Harrison Ford recreation- even though the actor is not returning to the role, withTroy Baker voicing the character instead- and make the title feel more like the movies, it did result in the showcase reveal playing out more like a movie trailer than that of a game. While this can be normal in a story or cinematic reveal trailer, it does raise the question of how much of the game is going to be heavily scripted, with players having no control over the interaction between Indy, Gina, and Voss' minions.

Hopefully, as the game is due to be released sometime this year on Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam, players will get a more in-depth look at gameplay soon. Until then,Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s story certainly seems to include all of the elements fans of the movies have come to love, with grand action set pieces set up across the world as the legendary archaeologist faces a variety of sinister foes while trying to uncover another of history’s greatest mysteries.
