My Hero Academia Chapter 429 is titled ‘I am here’. As many can recognize, it’s All Might’s catchphrase as he arrived to save people in his hero days. But in this chapter, it represents how there are many heroes surrounding us, not all of them holds a license or wears a cape, but they’re still here.
The chapter starts with the mysterious man we saw inChapter 425. Contrary to many theories, he turns out to be a normal man who’s been severely abused by his family. In his flashback, we learn how his family’s behavior changed when his mutated Quirk (not inherited from his parents) first awakened.
After faking happiness, they tied the boy’s mouth and locked him in their underground basement and kept him there for years. That’s until the final war began and the country began to fall to ruins. Throwing one loaf of bread at the boy, they escaped without freeing him.

However, when the house collapsed, he was finally able to escape. But after so many years of imprisonment, the sunlight hurts his skin and he doesn’t understand why the people around him are so happy when all he’s known is misery.
The scene then cuts toDekuand Ochako.Chapter 428ended with him finding her breaking down on the hill. In My Hero Academia Chapter 429, the scene continues. When Ochako sees Deku, she tries to hide her tears. But he tells her how worried he was about her since she wasn’t acting normal.
He then proceeds to tell her how she’s always put others before her and has saved him again and again. In a beautiful and heartwarming scene, he confesses she’s his hero. Ochako sobs more as she finally reveals how guilty she feels about Toga’s death. This chapter finally confirms the female villain’s death.
Deku says he feels the same way about Tenko. But they have to move forward and become better heroes in the future. The two has a brief hand-holding moment before the rest of Class 1-A arrives to comfort her.
We see a panel showing One For All’s embers as Deku smiles as his fist. WhenBakugoasks if the embers are still there since he’s already used it, the young man confirms it is. Deku then narrates, “OFA was completed through the heroism of many people. Now, if we can all create something together…” This could be a hint thatDeku still has One For All after all, at least the core of it.
The scene changes to All Might and Hawks. The former number one hero reveals how he wants to change the billboard as people other than Pro Heroes helped tremendously in the war. We then go back to the mysterious man who stumbles upon the same grandmother in Tenko’s childhood.
However, unlike last time, she helps this guy, thinking to herself how she always wondered what happened to the little boy she didn’t help years ago. Thanks to regret and conscience, this abused man finally finds kindness for the first time in his life. The chapter ends with Deku and Ochako seeing this from afar and smiling as Hawks narrates, “A society where heroes have too much spare time.”
