Summary
While his character has yet to be back for the next season, Wyatt Russell reveals his one wish forMonarch: Legacy of Monstersseason 2. The Monsterverse show saw Russell and his father, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Kurt Russell, both star as Lee Shaw, a former U.S. Army Colonel who served as one of the founding members of the titular organization alongside Bill Randa and Keiko Miura.TheMonarchseason 1 finalesaw the older version of the character sacrifice himself to allow Keiko, Cate and Kentaro to escape the realm between the surface and Hollow Earth before the rift closes.
During a recent interview withVariety, both Russells reflected on the unique experience of sharing the same character in the Monsterverse show. Though not directly addressing his potential return for the recently confirmedMonarch: Legacy of Monstersseason 2, Wyatt Russell did share his one hope for a potential reprisal of Shaw to come with the opportunity to share a scene with his father. Check out what Russell said below:

I didn’t really get to work with my dad. I would still like to do that. This wets the whistle. It would be so much fun to be in a scene together.
How The Two Russells Could Share The Screen In Monarch Season 2
While much of the other cast have expressed an eagerness to return, Kurt Russell’s previousMonarch: Legacy of Monstersseason 2comments were much more cautious, feeling that Shaw’s arc came to a meaningful close in the season 1 finale. Given the character either died after dropping off of the Operation Hourglass vehicle, or was left alone in the midst of the battle between Godzilla and the Ion Dragon in Axis Mundi, it would take a fair amount of explaining to address Shaw’s return in the next season.
However, should showrunner Chris Black find a way to do so, this could lead to a unique opportunity to allow both Russells to share the screen with one another inMonarch: Legacy of Monstersseason 2. As already explored a few times in season 1, particularly regarding Shaw, Axis Mundi frequently results in time-bending events, including Keiko and Lee living well beyond their years while trapped there. Though no instance of two versions of a character existing in one space have been seen yet, season 2 could break this open for the Monsterverse to explore in future projects.

Monarch Show’s Season 2 Setup Promises 7 More Monsterverse Stories
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters' setup for season 2’s overarching narrative promises seven more stories to happen in the Monsterverse’s future.
Another potential explanation for how the Russells could act with one another inMonarch: Legacy of Monstersseason 2 is through a series of near-death visions. If Shaw did indeed survive the events of the season 1 finale, it would make sense he would experience flashbacks of his life, as is often the case in fiction, which could in turn see him interact with the younger version of himself as they reflect on their missteps and how he can redeem himself in the present. This could, in turn, also build a bridge for either Russell to appear infuture Monsterverse installments, for which Apple is said to be developing multiple spinoffs.
