There are many ways to get horses in Red Dead Redemption 2, but finding a good mount for free is tricky. These are RDR2’s best free horses.
It would be best to steal a carriage or wagon, no matter what kind. Ride it into the Scarlett Meadows Stable so that you are inside the stable and remain on the carriage or wagon. Then, shoot at the wall or ceiling; itdoesn’t matter which, but you will want to raise the alarm.
Once you are Wanted, dismount the carriage and enter the stall of the Amber Champagne horse.Feed it until you havebonded enough with the horseto make it appear as an iconon your map. Then run away from the red circle as fast as possible and waituntil the lawmen stop searchingfor you. Once you are clear, approach the stable and whistle, and the horse should come to you since you have bonded.
Other Ways To Get The Missouri Fox Trotter Early
Getting Lucky With Respawns
Again, another glitch might mean you canget the Missouri Fox Trotter a little earlier without paying the cost. It will require a lot of luck and patience. This video fromPlayer7on YouTube breaks down the method.
The encounter plays out atthe junction of Carmody Dell, and you should be set up on the tracks near the Heartland Oil Field. The basic idea is to get a sniper weapon and wait from a distance as an encounter with a woman on the side of the road plays out. The goal is to have her horse, a Silver Dapple Missouri Fox Trotter, respawn alive instead of on the side of the road. You may have to keep sniping her until the glitch exploit works.
This exploit will not work if you have encountered her already.
Once she spawns with a live horse, race for it and steal the horsebefore anything else happens, making sure to add it to your compendium. Once that’s done, you will have agame-changing horse forRed Dead Redemption 2in the form of the Missouri Fox Trotteras early as Chapter 2.
Lastly, the player has a chance to get this horseduring the “Arcadia For Amateurs” mission, which can be found in Chapter 2. This missionwill require you to continue to find Albert as he requests it. The mission you want to get to is Mission 3,which will require you to herd wild horses, including one Missouri Fox Trotter, toward Albert with his camera.
You will want to do a couple of things to ensure this works better than it might otherwise.Rockworthon YouTube has a great breakdown of the steps, but there are a few things to keep in mind.Borrow Albert’s horse to do the herding, and leave your horse a little ways to Albert’s right. Once the herd is close to Albert, race ahead and attempt to reach Albert before they do.
Run to Albert and skip the cutscenebefore running to your horse and following the herd as fast as possible. You can attempt to track them, but Rockworth points out that they run in a fairly straight line, which could lose you precious seconds.Keep galloping until you spot the herd, and then follow the Missouri Fox Trotter until you can safely jump from your horse’s back to its.
That will allow you to start taming the Missouri Fox Trotter. This wild version cannot be lassoed or jumped on from the ground; itmust be from your horse. Once on the horse, continue to bond with it until you have reached a stable that you can register at. Be sure to save just before that to ensure the registration works, and then you will be able to have a Missouri Fox Trotter all to yourself inRed Dead Redemption 2.
