Elden Ring players discover new Erdtree location was already in the game’s lore
Elden Ring fans have made a new discovery that shows an Erdtree location could already be seen in the game’s lore.
With last week’s release of theShadow of the Erdtree trailer, the Elden Ring community is looking for anything and everything to hint at what the DLC could have in store for them.

Many fans have even begun combing back through the content in the base game to see ifthere were any referenceshiding in plain sight.
It turns out there was, as some Elden Ring players have discovered a reference toa location in the DLCis in the game.

Elden Ring fans find DLC location was already in the lore
The connection wasshared on the Elden Ring subreddit, in a post titled: “NEW DISCOVERY! Candletree as the sigil of a faction in the land of shadow? Seriously how much of this was planned from the start!?”
The post shows an image of the Candletree Wooden Shield, an item that can be found in the base game and whose lore contains an interesting sentence:

“Thought to represent a surreptitious prophecy of cardinal sin, the lit candle-tree design was forbidden.”
The significance of this is that the design on the shield – that of the Candletree – can be seen in a couple of places in the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer.

The Elden Ring community is not surprised to see this being the case, as they would expect nothing less from FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki.
“Miyazaki said Shadow of the Erdtree includes lore George R.R. Martin created for the original game. So I’m pretty confident it’s more like Miyazaki decided not to include everything in the main game and reserve some of it for the DLC, instead of Miyazaki creating aditional lore for it.”

One user even has made a connection between this new discovery and a boss from the trailer that hadcaught the attention of players.
“Oh wow, this makes me think now that the old dude pulling his head off is pulling out a candle. The little candle that guy is holding looks almost exactly like it color and all.”
Many Elden Ring fans are taking the time to theorize what this symbol could represent for the story of the DLC, and the game’s lore as a whole.
One user believes itplays into the story of Messmer, a character set to appear in Shadow of the Erdtree, that many theorize isa characterconnectedto Miquella, who was hidden away from the world.
Of course, all of this is still guessing, and there has been no confirmation if these theories have any ground to stand on. Knowing FromSoftware, there also may never be an official confirmation even after the DLC releases.
Regardless, the Elden Ring community is excited to findanother thread they can followto try and find as many clues as they can.
